New Electronica Music: Oscar Key Sung + SBTRKT + Cashmere Cat

If you listen to all three of these songs in a row, you’ll actually slip into a chillwave coma. So make sure you put on some Slayer between tracks. Safety first.

Oscar Key Sung-Holograms

Oscar Key Sung has been inching towards the release of a new EP, and with each individual snippet of the EP, I salivate just that much more. ‘All I Could Do’ made me jizz buckets, but ‘Holograms’ has made me upgrade to the carcass of a blue whale, as it’s the only thing that could detain my seed.

On ‘Holograms’, OKS proves himself to be like some sort of sensitive R. Kelly. Those floaty vocals charging in front of the wispy synths, and bobbing bass licks? It makes me want to cry, laugh, vomit, and cry with all the emotions of the rainbow. One word description: fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

SBTRKT-Hold the Line

BOOOOM! SHAKALAKA! BADOOOSH! MICHAEL BAY! So! many! explosion! sounds! It’s a new one from SBTRKT, you know that electronic dude behind the mask? No, that’s Deadmau5. No, you’re thinking of Daft Punk. The guy who did a bunch of collaborations, with people like Jessie Ware and Little Dragon? He’s really good? Yeah, ‘Wildfire’ guy!

Anyway, there’s a new song, an instrumental that got world premiered on BBC radio, which means there’s about 40 seconds of bullshit before there’s A NEW SBTRKT SONG! As expected, it’s a glittery, subteranean track that jettisons into all sorts of emotional pathlines. Glory! Happiness! Doubt! Depression! It’s all there, in the song, in the music, man!

Cashmere Cat-Wedding Bells

And now, for a triumphant finale! A new one from Cashmere Cat. On a sour side, listening to this makes me swell with regret and melancholy that I didn’t see him at Laneway or his sideshows. Man, imagine listening to this song live! Those thundering drops that elevate into some sort of Amazonian pan-flute magic, with aerodynamic drums collapsing on all sides. It’s like living in an Indiana Jones temple that’s run by the disciples of TLC!

New: Hoodlem-Firing Line

I feel like for such a beautiful, resonating song, a haiku is in order:

Trickling beauty,

Pouring into my brain cells,

Hoodlem fucking rule.

Okay, so maybe I was never one for Japanese poetry, but this song is stunning. Think along the lines of SBTRK and Beth Orton. There’s very shiny, underwater production, and it all just builds and builds into a highly enjoyable mix.

September Playlist

September is here! And with it comes Spring…and my birthday. I’m gonna be fucking 18, and better yet I’ll be able to go see Fuck Buttons, live and in the flesh. I reckon I’ll kidnap one of them. Anyway, enough of my longing for abrasive electronica. This is the playlist of songs that have inserted their roots of addictiveness in my soul. From Aussie acts like Violent Soho, The Gooch Palms and Seekae, who are constantly popping up on this website, to newcomers like The Ocean Party and Clowns. There’s also heaps more electronic, production based music on this playlist, from Shigeto, to Charles Murdoch, and SBTRKT. All round, this playlist is full of diverse and amazing music that you should consider buying.

Video: Cosmo Black-Waking Up The Same (feat. Natalie Foster)

If you’re like me, and have just enjoyed a total bender of a weekend, and need something to make the pounding headache disapear, and the threat of Monday morning that more palatable, enjoy the smooth sounds of Cosmo Black’s new track, ‘Waking Up The Same’. SBTRKT can wear all the fucking masks he want, because Cosmo Black may as well be called the king of chillwave, post-debstep whatever. This track is just insanely good, the tides of synth and keys washing over the soul like a really, really good smoothie. I feel healthier and rejuvenated after listening to this. That’s how good Cosmo Black is-it can recharge your chi energy levels. Awesome.

Jazz-Rat’s Playlist

Contrary to the name, Jazz-Rat does not like Jazz. If you told him to play some Louis Armstrong, he’d put on the Tour De France. What an idiot! What a fool! What a buffoon! That’s enough insulting of the Jazz-Rat’s musical naivety. Despite not living up to his name, Jazz-Rat is a DJ, which he will take any opportunity to remind you of, and he is also a keen Michael Buble impersonator. Not fucking bad, I’d dare say Buble’s got some competition. The Voice has a new contender for Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden and Delta Good-head to slobber over. Because I love his lanky personality more than Darth Vader likes to choke his own soldiers, I compiled a compilation. At his request, there’s ‘a little bit of everything, cos I’m into everything, y’know, like not just electronic, but like, rock music as well’. So from the confines of The Mess Hall’s Aussie-bloke swagger, to Tame Impala’s (again, at his specific request) bombastic personification. There’s even the new Flume remix by Ta-ku and some Diplo and the Glitch Mob, because, you know, he’s a DJ (ladiezzzzzzz ;). Apologies in advance for the Pitchfork-y vibe halfway through.

1. Flume feat Chet Faker-Left Alone (Ta-ku Remix) (Available for Download)

2. Tame Impala-Elephant

3. The Mess Hall- Keep Walking

4. Peking Duk- The Way You Are

5. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs-Household Goods

6. Fishing-OOOO

7. Pretty Lights-Sunday School

8. Melt Yourself Down-We Are Enough (Free Download Available, this band will be huge)

9. Diplo-Express Yourself

10. Digitalism-The Pulse

11. SBTRKT-Nervous feat. Jessie Ware

12. The Glitch Mob-Beyond Monday

13. The Gooch Palms-Cucaracha

14. Yeasayer- Reagan’s Skeleton

15. Hot Chip-Over and Over
