If there was ever a severely underrated band living in Australia, it would be The Stevens. Although their debut record was a bit all over the place, there is absolutely no doubt that they have written some of the best songs since The Go-Betweens. Their new track “Thirsty Eye” is a prime example, and might just be one of their finest efforts.
It’s immediately catching, like fluff to velcro, attaching itself to the brain like a Facehugger. It has a chorus, and charm, that’ll be implanted in your head for weeks, swimming around your mind, leeching your soul with the kind of jangle pop that could only come from Australia. Also, it reminds us that The Stevens are absolutely, fucking brilliant.
